Good morning beautiful. I am in town and I want to see you. Let’s do lunch and dinner. XOXOXOXO Roman.

I rolled over and eyed my text messages again and smiled at the thought of seeing Roman. I meant every word I said to Rahkeem the night before, but seeing Roman would be an escape from my problems for today. I still wasn’t sure about what we were doing, so I decided to see Roman anyway. I climbed out of bed after changing R.J.’s diaper and put him in his walker. I headed to the living room where Rahkeem was still sprawled out on the couch. I turned the television on low and let cartoons entertain R.J. while I made breakfast.

I wasn’t trying to make such a large breakfast as before since I had other plans, but I wanted to make sure they were straight before I left to get ready. I was meeting Roman at The Chop House downtown for lunch and I needed to look nice.

I stood in the kitchen humming SWV’s I’m So Into You. I had gotten lost in the song until Rahkeem burst out laughing behind me. I guess my humming had turned into full-blown singing somewhere along the way.

“Keep yo’ day job boo,” he said as he walked up and snuck a piece of bacon.

I smacked his hand. “Nigga I can blow. Don’t test my skills.”

“Yeah baby, you can blow. All night on this dick!”

I fell out laughing at his words. He had a way of turning everything into a joke. I was also glad he was speaking to me. My little trick had worked magic.

“Speaking of job, if I’m staying in town I need to find another job. I don’t want to depend on you,” I told Rahkeem.

Rahkeem nodded his head. I could tell he didn’t like what I was saying, but one thing I had learned from Cam was not to depend on any man, eventually they always let you down. “I’ll be back as soon as I can.”

I wasn’t exactly lying to him because I planned to use my phone to apply for a job, but I didn’t need to leave the house to do that. I finished breakfast and rushed out of the apartment and headed back to my spot to find the perfect outfit to go see Roman in.
